Vania Ramos Ponce joined the Western Women’s Business Center as the bilingual business lending consultant in 2022.
Prior to joining WWBC and Carolina Small Business Development Fund, she worked for Prospera USA, a nonprofit organization that provides business education and support to Spanish-speaking entrepreneurs, as a business development consultant and was responsible for running the office in Raleigh.
Prior to moving to the United States, she received her bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Auditing, an MBA, and a Ph.D. in Political Economy of Development at the University of Puebla in Puebla, Mexico. She is certified as a Financial Modeling and Valuation Analyst by the Corporate Finance Institute.
She has eight years of entrepreneurial experience in Mexico and worked in the private sector as an accountant for PricewaterhouseCoopers, Schaeffler Group, and Schnellecke Logistics in Mexico, and for Robert Half International and Paccar in Seattle, Washington.
Vania’s roots are in academia. She has been on faculty with the Economics Department at the University of Puebla as a finance professor for 12 years. In 2010, she was awarded the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation Scholarship to study at the Entrepreneurship Institute in India. She was also awarded an AT Kearny Scholarship to participate in the Falling Walls Conference in Berlin in 2012. Throughout her career in academia, she has participated in international academic congresses in Italy, Netherlands, and Uruguay.
